Ihlara Valley, in the Güzelyurt district of Aksaray, attracts the attention of local and foreign tourists who come to visit Cappadocia with its rock carving places, churches and vegetation. Since it is on the Cappadocia route, the tourists who first come to Ihlara Valley, descend the 394-step ladder and tour the 14-kilometer-long valley. Ihlara Valley, which attracts attention with its microclimate feature, has recently been in high demand from tourists from Ukraine and Pakistan, especially Russia. Tourists, whose fever was measured at the entrance due to the pandemic, wandered the valley with masks.
‘RUSSIAN TOURISTS FLOOD’
Selim Ateş, who guides Russian tourists, said:
” Visitors from Russia, Ukraine and Pakistan show interest in Ihlara Valley during the autumn season. Ihlara Canyon is the second largest canyon in the world. The first is the Grand Canyon in America. Ihlara Valley is a very important place. It is a place where priests and nuns retreated and lived during the Byzantine period. Therefore, it is different from other canyons. Melendiz Stream passes right in the middle. Ihlara Valley was formed with the explosion of Hasandağı millions of years ago. It has a height of 90 meters from the bottom to the top. There are tens of churches, monasteries, and grapevines and food stores with a 14-kilometer walking area. This is the only canyon in the world with these features. Recently, Russian tourists have been flocking to it. ”
DEMAND INTENSIVE TO WALK IN NATURE AT THE SIDE OF MELENDIZ TEA
Another tour guide, Mustafa Balkış, said: “Ihlara Valley is a perfect place. We go down the stairs and visit St. Danyal Church with under the tree first. After that, we do a 3-kilometer nature walk. The environment is magnificent in this season. The local and foreign tourists we visit are very satisfied. “Ihlara Canyon of Aksaray is also the entrance gate of Cappadocia. We will visit Selime Cathedral on our way from here. To take a green nature walk on the edge of the Melendiz Stream gives tourists great pleasure,” he said.
Seda Ulubaşı, who came to visit from Kocaeli, stated that she came to the valley for the first time and liked it very much, saying, “I knew the history of this place. But it was better to walk around and see it. Foreign tourists are very busy here. We took lots of photos to travel in nature and immortalize today, “he said.
