London. Begum Shamim Akhtar, the mother of former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, died in London on Sunday. She was 91 years old. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has said that Begum Shamim had been ill for a long time and went to London for treatment in February this year. Begum Shamim was living in London with her son Nawaz Sharif and other family members.
PML-N Deputy General Secretary Ataullah Tarar confirmed that the former PM Nawaz Sharif’s mother Begum Shamim Akhtar breathed her last in London on Sunday.

He said that the dead body of Begum Shamim Akhtar would be brought to Lahore on Monday and buried next to the tomb of her husband Mian Sharif in the Sharif family’s residence at Jati Umra Raiwind.

Ataullah Tarar said that Nawaz Sharif’s younger brother and PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif will be allowed to be released on parole to join the mother’s funeral.

However, it is not clear whether Nawaz Sharif will come to Pakistan to join his mother’s funeral. Since a Pakistani court has declared Nawaz Sharif as a fugitive. Nawaz Sharif, imprisoned on charges of corruption, came out on parole citing ill health and then came to London for treatment. Since then, he is not returning to Pakistan even after completion of the deadline.
It is being told that Nawaz Sharif will attend his mother’s namaz-e-Janaja in London before his mother’s body is sent to Lahore.
