Three BJP workers were shot dead in a suspected militant attack in Y K Pora, Qazigund area of Kulgam in south Kashmir Tuesday evening.
The slain BJP workers were identified as Fida Hussain Yatoo, son of Ghulam Ahmad Yatoo of Y K Pora; Umer Rashid Beigh, son of Abdul Rashid Beigh of Sophat Devsar and Umer Ramzan Hajam, son of Muhammad Ramzan of Y K Pora.
A Police officer at Kulgam said that preliminary investigation revealed that militants fired at the three BJP workers, resulting in critical injuries to all of them.
“They were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment where they were declared brought dead,” a Police officer said.
Meanwhile, Police have registered a case in this regard under the relevant sections of law.
“The area has been cordoned off and searches are being conducted in the area to nab the culprits behind the attack,” Police said.
Medical Superintendent of Emergency Hospital at Qazigund, Dr Asima Nazeer told Rising Kashmir that the trio was brought dead to the hospital.
BJP’s media-in charge Kashmir, Manzoor Bhat condemned the attack on its members and termed it “barbaric”.
He urged the Government of India to provide proper security and accommodation to its workers.
