In order to tackle the growing unemployment the Abdul Ahad Azad Memorial Government Degree College Bemina Thursday signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Cost Accountants of India(ICAI).
The purpose of signing the MoU was to introduce a skill-based course in higher education to increase employability.
The function was held in the presence of Principal Secretary Higher Education, Talat Parvez Ruhella, CMA. P. Raju Aiyer, Vice President ICAI, M.Y Peerzada, Director Colleges J&K, Principal of Bemina college besides other officials.
While talking about career-oriented courses, Ruhella said that students would be imparted with required skill sets in order to enhance their global competitiveness through this course.
“Through this course students would get linked to industries as employment skills would be provided to students,” he said.
Ruhella said that youth in Kashmir are more inclined towards government jobs but through skill courses they would move to the private sector.
“We already have some students who have opted for skill courses and they are already getting the jobs. Such a course would increase the employability to 60 per cent,” Ruhella said.
The course which has been introduced is the cost accountancy which is said to help in the businesses.
“We have so many industries in J&K and self- sustainability is the need of the hour. If students go for cost accountancy they help promote the businesses. These students should take the local business forward. For businesses to grow this course is a must,” Ruhella said.
Ruhella further said that 17 to 18 skill programs would be soon introduced which will promote self employment.
“Multi disciplinary degrees will be awarded, more and more employability will be generated. Required skillsets would be imparted into students to match with industry set up,” he said.
While talking about current job scenario in Kashmir, Ruhella said the situation is very alarming because students don’t have a skill set to fit into the market and they should be prepared in such a manner that they find a suitable place for themselves.
“The situation can be tackled by roping in the training partners. As many institutes in India have already started gearing up to change the situation, so are we,” he said.
P. Raju while talking about the importance of this course, said that MoU will be a great opportunity for the students of J&K.
“We have 110 chapters in India and various abroad too. Through us students would be recruited in different Institutes,” Raju said.
He further said that we are bringing industries to the students to impart practical knowledge.
“Through these courses the students will get practical exposure. Resource persons will be roped in and internships will be provided. There will be hands-on jobs provided in the private sector to the students,” he said.
