Former Director General Tourism Mohammad Ashraf passed away at 11 pm on Tuesday.
He was laid to rest at his ancestral grave yard on Wednesday morning.
Civil Society, political leaders and people from different walks of the life have condoled his death.
Ashraf started his career as a Deputy Director Tourism and rose to head the same Department in 1992 as its Director and was promoted as Director General in 1996 from which post he retired in 2003 after a total service of 30 years in Tourism.
He was also patron of the Jammu & Kashmir Mountaineering & Hiking Club which is currently the oldest and also the largest hiking club in JK.
M Ashraf has also actively promoted tourism in Ladakh.
Meanwhile, travel agents association of Kashmir (TAAK) has expressed grief over the demise of Mohammad Ashraf.
TAAK has expressed condolence to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul.
TAAK said his works as DG tourism for the promotion of adventure tourism will be remembered.
“We have lost a great patron of tourism in general and adventure sector in particular. May the departed soul rest in peace.”
