Two to three militants are suspected to be hiding in the area. One militant is believed to have been shot dead, according to officials.
Security forces on Monday morning encircled a group of militants, triggering an encounter, in the residential area of Rambagh area in capital Srinagar.
A police official said the encounter, which broke out early in the morning, “is on and is progressing slowly because the area is a congested locality”.
“Intermittent firing is on in the area,” an official said.
The operation is carried out jointly by the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group and the CRPF.
“Two to three militants are suspected to be hiding in the area. One militant is believed to have been shot dead. However, the body is yet to be retrieved,” the officials said.
