Islamabad Another example has been seen of how the freedom of expression is being strangled in Pakistan. In fact, a Pakistan TV channel was banned for a month simply because of a comment made by the channel about the judiciary.
Media monitoring agency in Pakistan PEMRA has suspended the license of a TV channel for thirty days and also imposed a fine of one million rupees on the channel. PEMRA has taken this action by an anchor of the channel, calling the remarks against the judiciary derogatory.
Pakistan: PEMRA fined for running fake news in PM Imran’s pay hike case
Please tell that Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has taken this action against the ‘Bol News’ channel. PEMRA has reported that on 13 January, ‘Bol News’ anchor Sami Ibrahim had made derogatory remarks on the appointment of Lahore High Court Chief Justice and other judges in the broadcast program.
PEMRA also issued a show cause notice regarding this comment, on which the channel insisted on withdrawing the notice instead of expressing regret.
Notice has also been issued to ibrahim before
Let me tell you that this is not the first time that anchor Sami Ibrahim has a connection with the controversy. Earlier in 2019, Sami Ibrahim has had a dispute with Science Minister Fawad Chaudhary due to a talk show on Prime Minister Imran Khan. Not only this, Fawad Chaudhary also slapped anchor Ibrahim at a wedding ceremony.
