Senior Congress leader GM Saroori on Saturday said that a blatant lie has shocked many in the state where UT Govt. of J&K has claimed to have increased the quota of MBBS seats in the Medical Colleges of UT in J&K by 500.
“This claims is sheer joke as the seats which present dispensation claims to have increased where already existing pending to the completion of sanctioned Medical Colleges by the then Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad back in 2013,” Saroori said.
The new medical colleges included Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Baramulla and Anantnag and 100 MBBS seats for each Medical Colleges were earmarked at that point of time,” Saroori said, adding, “Not only this additional 100 seats each to GMS Jammu, Srinagar and Medical College run by Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS medical College) were sanctioned in 2013 by the than Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.”
Saroori said that all these decisions were taken by UPA II government. “From 2014, the progress on these projects was goint at a snail’s pace,” he said.
Saroori further said that the then Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad raised his voice against the slow pace of the completion of these medical colleges. “The irony of the matter is the present UT govt. of J&K makes false claims of sanctioning additional medical seats of MBBS aspirants, which is a cruel joke,” Saroori said, adding, “It has been in the DNA of the present BJP led govt. to take credit for the things/ projects which they neither conceived or put in action. There are number of such projects which UPA I or II started or conceived are now claimed to be the brain child of BJP, which is nothing but bunch of lies. Same is the case with the present claim of UT Govt. of J&K of increasing 500 Medical seats for J&K Medical colleges, which is totally a false one.”
