• Light rains to continue today in Valley
• Weather likely to improve from Monday
• Temperatures drop sharply
The higher reaches of north Kashmir’s Gulmarg received season’s first snowfall on Saturday while the Meteorological department predicted light rains at isolated places on Sunday.
Deputy Director Indian Meteorological Department, Kashmir, Mukhtar Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that the upper reaches of Gulmarg including the Afarwat mountain range received light snowfall and rainfall Saturday morning.
“Following the western disturbances, there is more possibility of light rains on Sunday and overall weather improvement from Monday onward. The Valley also witnessed a sharp drop in the day temperatures,” he said.
An official at the department said the summer capital Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 24.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday, while minimum temperature was recorded at 9.8 degrees Celsius.
The ski-resort Gulmarg in Baramulla district remained the coldest station of the Valley recording 13.6 degrees Celsius maximum temperature while the minimum temperature was recorded at 6.5 degrees.
The maximum temperatures in Jammu city settled at 34.6 degree Celsius and minimum at 22.2 degree Celsius. Similarly, south Kashmir’s Kokernag recorded the maximum temperature of 23.1degree Celsius, Pahalgam 22.9 degree Celsius, and Qazigund 25.8 degree Celsius.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded the maximum temperatures of 25.5 degree Celsius and minimum temperature of 11.8 degree Celsius.
As per the advisory issued by the Traffic department, subject to fair weather and clearance of road, Light Motor Vehicles would be allowed to ply from Jammu toward Srinagar on the highway on Sunday.
However, Mughal Road would remain open for downward traffic.
Only load carriers loaded with fresh fruit would be allowed from Herpora, Shopian from 11 am to 4 pm toward Poonch.
No vehicle would be allowed after the cut of timings.
Moreover, no passenger vehicle or pedestrian would be allowed on the road, it said.
