The upper reaches of Kashmir Sunday received light spell of fresh snowfall which led to dip in temperatures while the Meteorological department has forecast dry weather till the first week of November.
Deputy Director Indian Meteorological Centre Kashmir, Mukhtar Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that the upper reaches of Kashmir received light spell of snowfall on Sunday.
“We are expecting significant improvement in weather conditions from Monday and there is no prediction of heavy rainfall or snowfall till November 3,” he said.
A fresh spell of snowfall has brought down temperatures sharply.
As per weather officials, the fresh spell of snowfall was received in Pir Ki Galli, upper reaches of Sonamarg, Zojila Pass, Kolahai mountain areas, Tulail, Machil, Sadna Top in Kupwara, Gulmarg in Baramulla, and upper parts of Gurez and Drass.
On Sunday, the summer capital of Srinagar recorded maximum temperatures of 18.4 degree Celsius on Sunday while minimum temperature was recorded at 2.6 degrees Celsius.
The ski-resort Gulmarg in Baramulla district remained the coldest station of the Valley recording 10 degrees Celsius maximum temperature while the minimum temperature was recorded at 2 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperatures in Jammu city settled at 31.1 degree Celsius and minimum at 15.8 degree Celsius.
Similarly, south Kashmir’s Kokernag witnessed the maximum temperature of 20.6 degree Celsius, Pahalgam 14.9 degree Celsius, and Qazigund 23.1 degree Celsius.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded maximum temperatures of 20.6 degree Celsius and while minimum temperature of 2.5 degree Celsius.
As per the traffic advisory issued here, subject to fair weather and clearance of road, Light Motor Vehicles (passenger) would be allowed to ply from Srinagar toward Jammu on the Srinagar-Jammu highway on Sunday.
“Only stranded Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) between Jawahar Tunnel and Levdora will be allowed to move toward Jammu,” it said.
Following the fresh snowfall, the Mughal Road was closed for vehicular traffic. However, an advisory issued by the Traffic department for Monday said, subject to fair weather, vehicles loaded with fresh fruit would be allowed from Herpora (Shopian) toward Poonch.
“No vehicle will be allowed after the cut of timings. Moreover, no passenger vehicle or pedestrian will be allowed on the Mughal Road,” it said.
On Srinagar-Sonamarg Road only essential commodities vehicles will be allowed on the highway, the advisory said.
