• Shooting stones disrupt traffic on Sgr-Jmu highway
• Only stranded vehicles from Sgr to ply today
Kashmir on Friday received light to moderate rainfall, while the Meteorological department is expecting dry weather for the next week in the Valley, officials said.
An official at the Meteorological department told Rising Kashmir that on Friday light rains lashed parts of the Valley and continued till late evening,
He said during the next 24 hours, there are chances of very light rains at scattered places across J&K.
“We are expecting dry weather for the next week in the Valley. During that period some places in the Jammu region may also receive light showers,” he said.
However, there is no major forecast of any significant weather activity this week, although light rains may occur at some places.
As per the weather official, heavy rains were recorded in the hilly areas of Kashmir while plains were also lashed with light rains.
Parts of Jammu region also received light to moderate rains during the wee hours on Friday, he said.
Following the light rains, the vehicular traffic on Srinagar-Jammu highway was disrupted for several hours due to shooting stones at many places along the 270-kilometer road.
As per the Traffic Police officials, the traffic movement on Srinagar-Jammu was disrupted at 5 am following light rains that triggered shooting stones in Panthial stretch of Ramban district.
“However, after the weather turned stable and stones stopped falling from the hill on to the highway at Panthial, and thereafter up traffic was restored around 2 pm,” the official said.
As per the advisory issued by the Traffic Police department for Saturday, subject to weather conditions, only stranded vehicles from Srinagar would be allowed to move toward Jammu.
On the Mughal Road, vehicles (load carriers) loaded with fresh fruits would be allowed from Herpora (Shopian) from 11 am to 4 pm toward Poonch.
“No vehicle shall be allowed after the cut of timings. Moreover, no passenger vehicle or a pedestrian will be allowed on the Mughal Road,” it said.
However, on the Srinagar-Sonamarg road, only essential commodity vehicles would be allowed to ply on the highway.
