Kathua | Sep 9: Amid spike in ceasefire violations along the 744km-long Line of Control (LoC) and terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir, lieutenant governor (L-G) Manoj Sinha visited the forward defence posts of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district to assess the security scenario.
“The L-G visited Bobiya border outpost on and reviewed the security setup. He was accompanied by IG BSF NS Jamwal, Jammu divisional commissioner Sanjeev Verma, IGP Jammu zone Mukesh Singh and other officers of the civil administration and BSF,” a BSF
Jamwal briefed him about border domination grid, assessment on threat perception and measures undertaken to strengthen spokesperson said.the border protection grid.
Sinha interacted with BSF officers and commanders, and stressed that government recognises their unparalleled contribution towards national security.
“He was satisfied with the measures taken by BSF to safeguard life and property of people and to prevent trans-border crimes. IG BSF requested the L-G to help BSF in clearing wild growth through MNREGA, and to urge farmers to carry out agricultural activities along the zero line ahead of fencing and timely completion of projects under the border works,” he said.
Jamwal requested him to look into the matter of erratic power supply and prevent frequent breakdowns because it hampers border domination.
Inquiry ordered into issue of seepage in bunkers
Sinha on Wednesday ordered an inquiry into incidents of seepage in underground bunkers constructed along the International Border (IB) to ensure safety of civilians during shelling by Pakistani troops.
He ordered the inquiry during his visit to Kathua to review the developmental scenario of the district.
So far, over 9,900 bunkers have been constructed along the IB and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Poonch and Rajouri districts in Jammu division.
There have been complaints of seepage in bunkers, especially in Kathua. A total of 2,126 bunkers have been constructed in the district.
The LG took cognisance of the seepage incidents in border bunkers and ordered an inquiry so that responsibility can be fixed for lapses, if any, an official spokesperson said.
The Centre had in December 2017 sanctioned the construction of 14,460 individual and community bunkers for border residents who bear the brunt of Pakistani shelling along the LoC and the IB.
AIIMS VISIT
Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said his government aims to make the healthcare system in the union territory the best in the country and called for “strenuous efforts” from all stakeholders to achieve the goal.
Sinha made the remarks during a visit to the AIIMS construction site in Samba district”s Vijaypur area. He inspected the pace of the construction work for the project which is slated to be completed by August 2022.
He also exhorted the concerned officers of executing agencies to make sure that necessary measures are taken to ensure quality of work.
Directing the executing agencies to ensure that the work is completed within the stipulated time, the LG said mega projects like AIIMS will certainly provide a boost to the healthcare sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
“There is a need for strenuous efforts from all stakeholders to improve health services” delivery and to strengthen the patient care system in the union territory,” he said.
“The union territory”s government is aiming to make the healthcare system of Jammu and Kashmir the best in the country,” he said.
The LG said the government is working on covering various factors like upgrading the health infrastructure, strengthening of human resources, rationalising the available staff, filling up vacancies of doctors, nurses and other health workers, and bringing in new innovations, among others.
These factors, he said, will play a major role in achieving the objective of providing quality healthcare services to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
