In Pakistan, yesterday, the third phase of vaccine tests developed by a Chinese company against the emerging corona virus (Covid-19) began in Pakistan, at a time when Islamabad is recording a decline in cases of HIV infection, which encouraged the authorities to lift all restrictions imposed to confront the virus.
The Pakistani Minister of Planning, Asad Omar, said in a tweet on the social networking site “Twitter”: “We have just launched the third phase of vaccine tests against the Corona virus in Pakistan.”
He added that 40,000 people, including 10,000 Pakistanis, will take part in the tests in seven countries, and priority results are expected within four to six months.
The vaccine, developed by Can Sino-Bio Pharmaceutical and the Beijing Institute of Biotechnology, is being tested in Argentina, Chile, China and Russia.
According to the National Institute of Health, which oversees the process, the first and second phase of vaccine tests, which were completed in May and June, have shown promising results.
Pakistan had recorded a significant decrease in cases of Coronavirus since last July, which prompted the government to lift the restrictions imposed, and the authorities allowed, at the beginning of this month, to reopen schools.
Pakistan has recorded, so far, 306,866 infections, and 6,424 deaths from the virus, according to the Ministry of Health data, and 582 cases were recorded during the past 24 hours, after conducting 36,155 tests.
