Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives stated that the 100 million meals campaign achieved more than 86% of the target during the first week of its launch, as the number of meals donated by the benefactors, individuals or entities and institutions, increased to 86 million meals, which confirms the interaction Emirati society has supported the campaign since it was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The Executive Director of the Charitable Work Sector at the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai, Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, said that the department supports charitable work in Dubai, and is working with the initiatives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to implement the 100 million meals campaign, by issuing the necessary licenses to collect donations. For the campaign inside the Emirate of Dubai, in addition to engaging the charities affiliated with the department in implementing the campaign. Several channels have also been identified to receive donations and contributions from philanthropists in the campaign.
He stated that the department collected 20 million dirhams to support the campaign within one week, adding that “it is expected that the volume of donations will increase until the end of this month, and this happened during the 10 million meals campaign that was launched last year to support those affected in the country by the (Corona) pandemic, but what It was collected by the end of the month, it reached 13 million meals. ”
Darwish pointed out that the campaign of 100 million meals is intended for the needy and the poor in other countries, while the campaign of 10 million meals during last Ramadan was limited to residents of the country who were affected by “Covid-19”.
He stressed that individuals are not allowed to collect donations under the pretext of supporting the campaign or for any other reason, based on the law that regulates the collection of donations in the Emirate of Dubai, noting that such charitable campaigns enhance the contributions of benefactors from individuals and entities within the framework of the law.
He stressed that the UAE has taken a humanitarian approach since the establishment of the Union, as it extends a hand to all the needy, poor and affected by disasters around the world, and the campaign aims to alleviate the effects on individuals and families and the burdens borne by societies in a number of countries, and provide food support to the lowest income groups. In the targeted countries, in addition to contributing to efforts to combat hunger and poverty and providing basic foodstuffs to the beneficiaries of the campaign in conjunction with the blessed month of Ramadan, and the values it carries in terms of support for the needy.
For her part, Director of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, Sarah Al-Nuaimi, said that the number of meals collected within the 100 million meals initiative has reached more than 86 million meals since the initiative was launched so far, and distribution began in three countries, namely Pakistan and Jordan. Egypt, and other countries will be added to distribute meals this week.
She added that the price of the meal is one dirham. The price of the package ranges between 240 and 300 dirhams, indicating that the duration of the fundraising campaign is the blessed month of Ramadan, but the distribution of meals extends to three months from the start of the distribution operations during the current month until the completion of the target numbers for each country.
She stated that «the campaign targeted 20 countries when it was launched, and a few days ago one of our strategic partners (the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment) announced the addition of 10 other countries to the campaign, and then the total is 30 countries targeted by the campaign», explaining that the campaign initiated the communication With the target countries to provide support to their people, after conducting studies on the living conditions of individuals in this country, and after discussing these studies with the strategic partners of the campaign, which are the regional network of food banks, and under its umbrella are more than 70 food banks around the world, in addition to 12 food banks in countries The United Nations World Food Program, through which cash vouchers are distributed to refugees and displaced persons, to be exchanged for meals in Bangladesh, Jordan, and Palestine, and the Mohammed bin Rashid Humanitarian and Charitable Foundation, which distributes food parcels.
She pointed out that the campaign targets a specific number of food parcels for each targeted country, based on studies conducted, and accordingly the meals were divided according to several specific criteria, noting that the campaign focuses on Arab countries, and then the number of parcels distributed there is greater than the distribution in Other countries.
